Is Google Ads right for your business?

Is google ads right for your business?

Everyone knows that Google provides a huge proportion of traffic to websites through its search facility and, in some more competitive industries, appearing on the first page of Google for your key search terms may be very difficult to do. Google Ads provides a way for you to appear on the first page, alongside your competition in a short amount of time.

Ads appear at the top and bottom of the search results. The listings that appear here, although they look similar to the other listings, are actually paid advertisements. Advertisers are charged an amount every time someone clicks on one of these listings and visits their website.

I’ve been a qualified, certified Google Ads professional since 2007 when I took over the campaign management for a previous employer.

Google Ads was always a great traffic provider and income generator for the company and it was never really an option not to advertise on the platform.

However, I understand that the additional cost for smaller businesses may not seem worthwhile, after all, it’s easy to spend a fortune on Google Ads and not see any return.

If you’re a small business looking to drive more traffic to your site, there are ways of controlling your advertising spend and making sure the traffic you’re driving is potential customers.

  • Local businesses that provide a service in one particular geographic region can target customers in just the region they serve.
  • Businesses on a small budget can set the daily budget of their campaigns so there are no surprises when the bill comes in.
  • Businesses that only operate during set hours, like 9am to 5pm, can set their campaigns to only run during the hours that their office is open to deal with enquiries.

These are just a few ways that Google Ad campaigns can be more targeted to help you keep control of your budget and make sure you reach the right people and, of course, see results. Google also provides free research tools for you to assess which keywords are being searched for and which will be most profitable. It’ll also give you a rough idea of where your listing will appear based on your maximum ‘bid’ (how much you’re prepared to spend for each click on your listing).
